What to Expect

Your First Visit

We feel it is important for you to feel safe and comfortable especially on your first visit. At our office, we have made every effort to have you feel at home with calming colors and a warm, happy environment.

If you have completed your paperwork already, we will discuss with you any questions you may have regarding chiropractic, fees or insurance. We make every effort to see patients immediately as your time is important.

Dr. Shaw will then sit down and discuss with you any of your health care concerns or questions and go over your health history. Included in the discussion will be what a typical day looks like for you in terms of how your posture is and what stresses are on your body. If you have any previous X-rays, MRIs, CT scans or other reports, please bring them with you at this time.

Dr. Shaw will then perform an examination to determine exactly what is happening to your spine and nervous system. During this time, she will explain her findings and always has time for your questions.

Please give yourself one hour for this process as we try to be as thorough as possible. If you are in discomfort, Dr. Shaw will provide treatment to give you relief. It is typical for the doctor to call you after your initial adjustment to see how you are doing and ask if you have any concerns.

Your Second Visit

During the second visit we will review our findings from the examination and discuss any questions or concerns you may have. Sometimes when people are in pain or apprehensive, too much information at once is overwhelming. For this reason, we set out extra time on the second visit to review and discuss your case.
We will discuss what treatment will be required and what realistic goals are for your condition. Dr. Shaw has been trained in numerous techniques. She typically starts with the gentlest approach, but everybody is different, so she will assess which would be most beneficial for you. You comfort is our goal so any apprehension you may have can be discussed and addressed.

After the investment of time needed on the first and second visits, many patients become concerned that every visit will be of equal length.

Regular Visits

The average office visit is 15-20 minutes but obviously can be longer depending on which therapy is used. The typical office visit involves discussing your present status:

  • How are you feeling?
  • Are you experiencing any discomfort?
  • Are there any questions?

Dr. Shaw always encourages questions; the more you know about your body, the better you will treat it.

The actual treatment includes the chiropractic adjustment and is usually preceded by a therapy that will relax the muscles. The therapy options include electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, massage therapy and intersegmental traction. It’s also important for people to strengthen the region, so we also offer neuromuscular re-education.

Expect a great experience in our warm and happy environment! Contact us today to schedule an appointment.
